I've installed Jupyter Notebook on AWS (Ubuntu 14.04). It is possible to add the missing Python kernel in Jupyter Notebook in Ubuntu 14.04 with ipykernel. Jupyter Notebook on my Ubuntu runs only Python 3 by default. If you're running Jupyter on Python 3, you can set up a Python 2 kernel like this: python2 -m pip install ipykernel python2 -m ipykernel install --user Start the notebook server from the terminal: jupyter notebook You should see Jupyter Notebook open in your web browser.

If you're running Jupyter on Python 3, you can set up a Python 2 kernel like this: python2 -m pip install ipykernel python2 -m ipykernel install --user. 1) $ sudo apt-get install python3-pip python3-dev 2) $ pip3 install -U jupyter 3) List all installed kernelspec.

Thanks takluyver. I did this conda create -n myenv python=3 ipykernel activate myenv python -m ipykernel install --user A load of new packages were downloaded and installed.

I can now fire up jupyter from myenv and work fine. But I want all those packages that Anaconda came with to be in this environment. If I do the same thing that I did above in my root, I still am having problems importing my other packages into jupyter. What do you suggest? Thanks a lot.

Update: Okay, I tried doing this conda create -n myenv python=3 ipykernel anaconda activate myenv python -m ipykernel install --user That seems to have alleviated the problem a bit. Beautifulsoup4 doesn't load. Pandas, numpy, blaze, bokeh, matlipplot, xlsxwriter, unicodecsv, babel, all load up fine on jupyter. Any thoughts?
